I just know this has been seen before, but my searches have yielded how to set up LVM2 and not as much for what I am trying to salvage.

Had my system set with /dev/hda & /dev/hdb with the standard 3 partitions for boot/swap/root. They were set up in EVMS as /dev/evms/root|boot|swap0 & 1

After neglecting my system since January, I decided to update the WORLD. I am now booted on Gentoo 3.5.3 kernel, and EVMS telling me it is only there for migration. And my system would not boot without specifying my direct /dev/hda(x) specifications in grub and fstab.

So I am booted up on one of my two mirror drives directly.

I have read the LVM2 set up, my question is can I use those commands to mirror my /dev/hda drive that I am actively using to the /dev/hdb drive that is it's twin, without going to a Boot CD? (and not trashing both drives?)

The docs are not really clear there that I have found.

What I meant to say is if I do this:

Code:

livecd ~ # mdadm --create /dev/md1 --level=1 --raid-devices=2 --metadata=0.90 /dev/hda1 /dev/hdb1

livecd ~ # mdadm --create /dev/md3 --level=1 --raid-devices=2 --metadata=0.90 /dev/hda3 /dev/hdb3

while I am currently running on /dev/hda1, will I hose things? :-)
