PostPosted: Mon Apr 30, 2012 1:26 am    Post subject: Apache fails to update due to libapr-1.la [SOLVED] Reply with quote

The error is actually with apache-tools, which is pulled by an update to apache. My problem is that I just did a major update to perl and now need to rebuild apache against the new perl. The system has many older packages we are trying to bring up to spec, and that most likely is part of the problem. When I try to do the apache update, I get the following build error:

Code:

We've updated Python, perl, and apr, so is there another library/package we need to update before we can apply the apache update? We'd like to get to this ASAP as my understanding is that with apache built against the old perl, it most likely cannot be restarted at the moment. Thanks for any help you can provide.

already tried the lafilefixer route? (emerge lafilefixer ; lafilefixer --justfixit)

usually a round or three of lafilefixer + revdep-rebuild does the job. YMMV

No, I was not aware of that fix; however, it seems to be working! I believe that apache-tools got further this time after running the lafilefixer and is still compiling. Thanks for the tip.

wicked. yeah the .la file buggery should be dying out nowadays, but some broken .la files (or .la files in general, which are used less and less) may still be lingering around for a bit.

Good sequence of commands to keep in your toolbox as a "try this when builds fail anywhere near something referencing .la files"

wow..there is so much to learn about gentoo. didn't know anything as such existed. ran lafilefixer and now these are compiling just fine:

apache 2.2.22-r1
net-analyzer/nmap-5.51
mail-mta/postfix-2.9.3
virtual/mta-0
dev-lang/php-5.3.15

As a result of "revdep-rebuild --library '/lib/libpcre.so.0' && rm '/lib/libpcre.so.0'"

Successfully compiled (I had to run lafilefix 2 times):
apache 2.2.22-r1
net-analyzer/nmap-5.51
mail-mta/postfix-2.9.3
virtual/mta-0

except php:
dev-lang/php-5.3.15

I get this error:
