It's not in portage yet, because it's alpha. Did anyone test? Issues, bugs? Especially the server init script required some work and is not tested thoroughly yet.

As a fan of the game Tremulous, I'm gonna install Unvanquished which seems to be the successor. Thanks for your overlay. I use some ebuilds from there. Like games-strategy/0ad which is also very nice. Really appreciated.

Hi,

I emerged the 0.28 but somehow I cannot play. Its not so clear to my why. Perhaps update the ebuild to the just released 0.30??


I can start the menu but when I try to start a game or start a server I do get errors:

when I try to start my own server I get the following error:

Thanks for the ebuild, but I am impossible to connect to a server.

The GUI loads.

I checked the web server page and it says a version of 0.30 x or so and your ebuild has a version of 0.28.

Got duplicate gUID Message which means that my user id is a duplicate. and before something like config > max config or so.

I think after an update to the current version of 0.30 we could try again and see if it works.

I realized today that I have to manually sync layman. I think it is done with
Code:
layman -S
.

I was able to connect to the training server.

What I really wondered in comparision to tremulous which I used to play for a while in the past:

It seems it is not possible anymore to reload the lasergun on the repeater! In tremulous there used to be a feature to reload energy weapons on the reactor and on repeaters. I also saw that when you used up a clip and get close to the armory you get your clips filled up automatically but your current clip is not changed. I assume they removed the buy ammo feature or I did not found it in the small config menu in the game.

I also wonder why my game runs at 30 fps? Is it the resolution or the settings.

The game servers are usually empty. I will try to log on when the developers play on sunday.

Game Tips:

To open the in game console you have to press Shift and the Escape key. This is a known hidden feature and not very well known.

When you want to share your money or evolution points you can type in the console as alien

/share 5
to share 5 evolution points with your teammates. As human you can write

/Share 500
to share 500 money credits with your teammates.

The biggest Alien is not always the best choice.

Changes versus the old tremulous. Your team has do kill regularly the opponent else you will loose your advanced stages. So do not be lazy to kill the opponent else you may not be able to buy / evolve to a better gear / class.

It is still a base race game, the team which destroys the opponent base wins the game. It seems the build points accumulate very slowly over the time. So you are not able to rebuild a hole base in a few minutes as in tremulous. There is a buildable structure where you can aquire extra build points but this structure ahs to be build in certain spots. You see a percentage which indicates how many points you will accumulate there as bonus.

It seems teh old bind structure of tremulous still works. e.g. Open the in game console with shift and escape key than you can type for
example

/bind f12 share 5
Which sets your f12 key to give away 5 evolution points or 5 credits as humans to your teammates. It seems the share command only applies to human players. I was unable to share with my bot teammates so far on the servers i played.

Works decent.

Should be in portage. Train server is usually full on some hours a day.

Works flawless. Nothing to complain about :)

31 alpha is available.

well i could not connect today.
So i renamed my .unanquished folder and than i saw 0.31.pkg3 is downloaded. sadly after the downloads the client crashes.

checking unvanquished net there is 31 alpha available.

Same as in urbanterror, older version does not works with newer version, both needed a new settings folder because they do not work after upgrading.

The game is unplayable on the fps wise.

for some reason i only get 30 fps and when i turn off any options the game looks like big boxes. I am overreacting but for a fps it is the worst.

I can not play anymore since 31. What a shame that a 9800m gts with 1 gb vram is not enough anymore.

I need at least some details to enjoy it and that is not possible anymore. No idea what they did in the last update but for some reason it is laggy.

Tried to build unvanquished these days, and its build system tries to pull some binary "depenedencies" from its site :/

For the benefit of other readers, please share the exact failure message. Is the host site no longer offering those binary dependencies? Is the download blocked by the network sandbox? Are the dependencies only available for some architectures, and yours is not one of them? Can you tell from the output what these dependencies are meant to be (such as bundled copies of well known libraries)?

It should be "NaCl SDK", apparently it is not packaged in Gentoo and is deprecated: https://github.com/Unvanquished/Unvanquished/issues/1086
