Hi,

I've got a problem, I still got an old mobile phone which can't play ogg files and only supports 1 GB microSD cards.
So I'm trying to downmix my music a little bit, which works without recognizable quality loss with "oggenc -q -1". But since I can't play ogg files, that's pretty useless.
If I convert it to mp3 the since is 3 times bigger then the ogg (no matter which program I use for conversion). Actually I don't realy know what the ogg is reducing to make it this small, but I want that on the music I got on my mobile phone.
So is there any program which could serve me like this?
Here's the ogginfo of the ogg file which I compressed:
Code:
New logical stream (#1, serial: 665eac2a): type vorbis
Vorbis headers parsed for stream 1, information follows...
Version: 0
Vendor: Xiph.Org libVorbis I 20120203 (Omnipresent)
Channels: 2
Rate: 44100

Nominal bitrate: 45,000000 kb/s
Upper bitrate not set
Lower bitrate not set
Vorbis stream 1:
   Total data length: 1044095 bytes
   Playback length: 3m:15.655s
   Average bitrate: 42,691058 kb/s
Logical stream 1 ended

I know I could reduce the size by removing the stereo (even in mp3) but that reduces the quality of some songs a lot. And I could resample to 22050 which would reduce it even more (without a big loss) but 1.0 MB for this file (at this settings) is totally ok. But if I convert it to mp3 it's size is 3.0 MB

What could I do?

Try using an MP2 encoder and renaming the output file to .mp3. MP2 will work in most MP3 players.

I found a solution.
I converted my mp3 files (I still had a few) into ogg, then into wav and after that I used aacplusenc which made them a bit bigger then ogg (1.1 MB for the file mentioned above).
I don't know why, but if I converted the mp3 to wav and then tried to convert to aac it crashed. And pacpl created bigger aac files if I used this program.
