|
|
Hello All,
Is there a stable, best, or most effective way to install the latest Samba4 beta from the samba.org git repository.
I have gentoo installed as a guest OS in virtualbox and want to begin testing the most up-to-date Samba4 betas; however, I understand there may be some extra prep needed to install non-portage software.
Any advice or guidance very much appreciated.
Thanks. |

Sum1,
there are samba4 alpha releases in portage, see [1].
To easily see that on the commandline, you can use e.g. app-portage/eix.
I strongly suggest to modify the existing ebuilds to achieve what you want.
In fact that will ease the task. Don't manually build and install software on gentoo. The beauty of gentoo is actually that you don't have to do that.
Ideally you publish the ebuild to get review and bugfixes. Also the community can benefit of that.
You can also contact the samba maintainers of gentoo so that you can work together on the project.
