link is going down during merging large packages like LibreOffice, Firefox.
Code:
02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 02)
Kernel driver in use: r8169

I used r8168 but it was the same.

emerge --info

it started two-three weeks ago.

yes,
just only
Code:
[19380.328249] r8169 0000:02:00.0 eth0: link down

then
Code:
rc-config restart net.eth0

and
Code:

[41423.809582] r8169 0000:02:00.0 eth0: link down
[41425.722602] r8169 0000:02:00.0 eth0: link up

I haven't changed kernel config for more than year, only now I changed realtek driver.

Reminds me my wifi in laptop. It would spin the fan only above 65 or 70°C. In the summer CPU would often overheat wifi making it unable to associate with nearby networks or even drop the link.

My solution doesn't answer the question as to why you keep dropping the link, but at least it gives you a work-around to installing your system.

My solution to allow you to upgrade./install open office is to simply download the files prior to the instillation process. emerge allows you to do this with the --fetchonly option of emerge. Using this option emerge will download all files and place them in the DISTFILES directory needed before the install, so that you will not an Internet connection while open office is being installed.

IMO, the problem was/is in CPU-overheating, it has shit-cooler, so I cleaned case and connected new case cooler. so far everything is okay.
