Code: Select all

# emerge -a firefox
These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!

!!! All ebuilds that could satisfy "firefox" have been masked.
!!! One of the following masked packages is required to complete your request:
- www-client/firefox-13.0::gentoo (masked by: package.mask)
/usr/portage/profiles/package.mask:
# Samuli Suominen <ssuominen@gentoo.org> (15 Jul 2012)
# Replaced by the new 4.8.4 release of kde-base/konqueror.
# Removal in 30 days.

- www-client/firefox-13.0 ::gentoo (masked by: package.mask)
Amazing! Firefox will soon be out of gentoo. I hope this is a joke!

In fact, this doesn't look to be a joke, even if the real message is the following:

Code: Select all

# emerge -a transset-df

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!

!!! All ebuilds that could satisfy "transset-df" have been masked.
!!! One of the following masked packages is required to complete your request:
- x11-misc/transset-df-6::x-test (masked by: package.mask)
/usr/portage/profiles/package.mask:
# Samuli Suominen <ssuominen@gentoo.org> (25 Jun 2012)
# Replaced by the new 1.0.0 release of x11-apps/transset.
# Removal in 30 days.

- x11-misc/transset-df-6::gentoo (masked by: package.mask)
I copied the ebuild over my personal test overlay. Just in case this is not a joke!

Looking at

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/app/transset/

it appears that it is a rationalisation of code on Freedesktop

No, no, no. That's just a typo that ssuominen made. In fact, deep laid plans are under way by the Gentoo developers to standardize on Internet Explorer.

According to the commit history the -df code has been merged into transset, so maybe you should verify that before filing reports.

For me, as user, the reference is the doc of both software. The man page of transset, as we can see this is the last 1.0.0 version:

Code: Select all

TRANSSET(1) TRANSSET(1)

NAME
transset - Set transparency on a window

SYNOPSIS
       transset [-d display] n

DESCRIPTION
transset is a simple program for X servers supporting the XFIXES, DAM‐
AGE, and COMPOSITE extensions. It lets the user set the transparency
       on a window.

OPTIONS
n Where n is a number from 0 to 1, zero being transparent and 1
              being opaque

BUGS
Probably. Please report any you find to https://bugs.freedesk‐
       top.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=xorg.

X Version 11 transset 1.0.0 TRANSSET(1)
The help of transset-df:

Code: Select all

: transset-df --help
usage: transset-df [-options ...] [opacity]
options:
    -h, --help display this message
-t, --toggle force toggle of opacity
-c, --click select by clicking on window (default)
-p, --point select the window currently under the cursor
-a, --actual select the actual window
-n, --name NAME select by name, NAME is matched as regular expression
--no-regex don't use regular expression for matching name
-i, --id select by window id
--inc increase by the given opacity
        --dec decrease by given opacity
-m, --min OPACITY minimum possible opacity (default = 0)
-x, --max OPACITY maximum possible opacity (default = 1)
-v, --verbose print some debug info
    -V, --version print version number

And yes, you are right, if I run the following and non documented transset command:

Code: Select all

transset --help
usage: transset [-options ...] [opacity]
options:
    -h, --help display this message
-t, --toggle force toggle of opacity
-c, --click select by clicking on window (default)
-p, --point select the window currently under the cursor
-a, --actual select the actual window
-n, --name NAME select by name, NAME is matched as regular expression
--no-regex don't use regular expression for matching name
-i, --id select by window id
--inc increase by the given opacity
        --dec decrease by given opacity
-m, --min OPACITY minimum possible opacity (default = 0)
-x, --max OPACITY maximum possible opacity (default = 1)
-v, --verbose print some debug info
    -V, --version print version number
I didn't try it before, because it is not documented into the man page. So, I will change this bug into a man page issue.

John .. those developers that survived the recent back-to-the-future coup have infact about-faced and are fully behind Generalisimo Larry in the promotion of Mosaic :)
