Everytime I try to emerge it, it hangs at another place, always just after configure.

The first time with the vera font. I then merged font config and the vera font again, rebooted the machine. Remerged, and it hung at "boost".

Now I try again, it hangs here:

This is really strange... always the same file missing :"settings.mk"

You have the dmake package emerges. Unmerge it, because openoffice wants to build it's own, but will use yours if you have it installed.

Hello, i have regular OO installed but want to ximian version, can i just emerge the ximian version or do i need to remove regular version first?

If i need to remove regular version are there any manual deletes i have to make?

cheers

I'd guess Ximian would be blocked by the original version... So yeah, do emerce -C openoffice && emerge openoffice-ximian

And I'm waiting for a binary... My scrawny 500 MHz 128 MB RAM laptop took three days to compile regular OOo, I have no idea how long this will take o_O(Oo)

Hi,
I have a bit of trouble with the ebuild in portage.

Code:

root@delirium brosen # ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge openoffice-ximian
Calculating dependencies
!!! all ebuilds that could satisfy "openoffice-ximian" have been masked.

!!! Error calculating dependencies. Please correct.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong here?
Other masked ebuilds work fine.

Thanks,
Bo

and r3 has this to say:

Code:

root@delirium root # emerge /usr/local/portage/app-office/openoffice-ximian/openoffice-ximian-1.1.0-r3.ebuild
Calculating dependencies ...done!
>>> emerge (1 of 1) app-office/openoffice-ximian-1.1.0-r3 to /
>>> md5 src_uri ;-) OOo_1.1.0_source.tar.bz2
>>> md5 src_uri ;-) ooo-build-1.1.45.tar.gz
>>> md5 src_uri ;-) ooo-icons-OOO_1_1-5.tar.gz
 * ****************************************************************
 *  It is important to note that OpenOffice.org is a very fragile
 *  build when it comes to CFLAGS.  A number of flags have already
 *  been filtered out.  If you experience difficulty merging this
 *  package and use agressive CFLAGS, lower the CFLAGS and try to
 *  merge again.
 * ****************************************************************
 * Unknown LANGUAGE setting!
 *
 * Known LANGUAGE settings are:
 *   ENUS | PORT | RUSS | GREEK | DTCH | FREN | SPAN | FINN | CAT | ITAL |
 *   CZECH | SLOVAK | DAN | SWED | POL | GER | PORTBR | THAI | ESTONIAN |
 *   JAPN | KOREAN | CHINSIM | CHINTRAD | TURK | HINDI | ARAB | HEBREW

!!! ERROR: app-office/openoffice-ximian-1.1.0-r3 failed.
!!! Function set_languages, Line 195, Exitcode 0
!!! (no error message)

Is my system completely borked? I tried with LANGUAGE="46" as well, but no go.

Give the full path when you emerge it:

Code:
emerge /usr/portage/app-office/openoffice-ximian/openoffice-ximian-1.1.46.ebuild

Something kinda off-topic... It's been impossible to get Gentoo on my desktop so I'm going to install Fedora on it. I know Lovechild's a Fedora user... So, how is Yum? (Yum's like apt/portage/ports for RedHat/Fedora)

YUM is like apt-get for rpms - works great, the reason portage and dpkg (apt-get) are great is not like people think their great dependency resolver but their large pool of software - yum currently doesn't have a very large pool so it's rather useless atm.
RPM has had a good second layer dependency resolver for a long time now despite popular belief.

Yum seems to spit out a lot of information I don't understand though, it's not very well thought out in terms of usability - it doesn't help that rpm-get, yum and up2date don't share a common configuration - it would be cool if they did.. automated update checks in using a nice applet, then a GUI to install them. oh yes... makes Lovechild juices boil... mmmm.

I think however that unless Fedora pulls together and provides the single largest pool of synced software for Linux it will be a horrible failure, since multiple repos tend to go out of sync. I already know that lots of people are working on unifying the different RedHat 3 party repos so it might happen yet.

Oh and I use Gentoo on my desktop and laptop right now - Fedora is a fun distro though and I can highly recommend it.

That simple huh. :-)
Thanks, at least it works with -p now so I guess it will be fine when I emerge for real. I need ooo today, so will have to wait messing with it (I have a binary installed).

Ciao,
Bo

Wouldn't that be cheating, altering package.mask? ;-)
But thanks for the suggestion, it may come in handy one day...

Anyone else had problems with this (this meaning the ebuilds here in this thread, and the one in portage) not building the /opt/Ximian-Openoffice/program directory? I have built the damn thing in it's various form about 6 times now - each time the compile completes with no errors, but no /program directory is built.

I have read a couple of other threads about where people have had this happen, but am yet to find a solution...

I am using Nylle's build r2 on two machines.

On my old Athlon Thunderbird 1200 it works fine, as fast as can be expected.

On my P4 it is SLOW. I mean really really slow. You stare at the OpenOffice logo for at least a minute. And then once inside doing anything is painful. It seems to take it forever to draw any dialog boxes, the border will appear and then maybe 30-45 seconds later the rest shows up. Likewise when you close it it doesn't clear off the desktop for a while either.

I have an nvidia gf4 using the nvidia drivers and I have tried turning renderaccel on and off but that doesn't seem to do much.

So it is rather alarming that my old Thunderbird can beat out a 2ghz P4 when running a Word Processor!

Any idea's what is making this happen? OO is all but useless in its current state on this machine.

Thanks for any help.

On my P4 2.4 it was also slow until I changed 2 things:

1. umerged dmake to use OOo's internal dmake (the latest ebuild didn't build with it anyway, so I was force to remove it)

2. Build it with -O2 (removed -O3).

These are my CFLAGS:
Code:
CFLAGS="-O2 -march=pentium4 -ffast-math -mfpmath=sse,387 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer -fprefetch-loop-arrays -fforce-addr -falign-functions=32"

Now ximian-openoffice 1.1.46 is kickin' fast.

Ah I was under the impression trying to build oo with any kind of optimizations like that would result in a failure. I guess I will try building it myself tonight!

Thank you.

I've been pondering this for quite sometime, why doesn't this ebuild strip-flags, it's a HUGE package and the code is horrible - there's a good chance over optimization will kill it.

at least strip -ftracer it's the cause of the "out of memory" error.

I have the same problem. I compiled r2 without any hitches. But r3, makes me sigh every now and then.

Can you use a binary with "-march=athlon-xp -O2" ?
