Hi,
i am looking for a good, fast and lightweight Desktop for my Gentoo server to run Wine Applications, log on with X11VNC and anything else.
I should run on a 1,6 GHz atom.
Temporaly i am using: Fluxbox and SLim.
Thanks a lot.

You are talking about "wine", the open source MS Windows-compatible ABI?
The WM you choose will be the lesser of your problems. Network latency will probably be the main one, alonside with the cpu. But, what kind of windows apps are you wanting to run through VNC, anyway?
There are lighter WMs, but nothing that will give you any performance boost, at all. The same goes for the DM, you could even set the box up to autologin using mingetty straight to fluxbox (or whatever else), but that won't help you with the performance at all. |
