bootstrap 32 bit Ada compiler from 64 bit

Problems with emerge or ebuilds? Have a basic programming question about C, PHP, Perl, BASH or something else?

bootstrap 32 bit Ada compiler from 64 bit

The Ada project page indicates that the compiler must be bootstrapped. For 64 bit builds, this is by downloading the binary from libre.adacore.com. However, there is no pre-built 32 bit binary. Is it possible to build a 32 bit compiler in the 64 bit environment, for bootstrapping, and if so, how?

mounty1,

This overlay looks promising.
It mentions
I have tested x86 and amd64 chroot's
... but it stops at gcc-5.4 so its not all plain sailing.

That's pretty rough sailing Neddy because for the new PIC 17.0 profiles you need at least gcc-6.3.0. Regrettably, Ada is somewhat neglected. Thanks for the answer though.

I added x86 (32 bits) a while ago to the gnat-gpl ebuild.
Non need to download anything from adacore by hand.
The ebuild will do it for you.

I have tested it some months ago. If you find something wrong just raise a bug request
