When I su in X (either with or without the login option), I am losing the environment variable COLORFGBG, which is causing problems in certain applications. My first question is "why is this happening?" (I am guessing that I am missing something basic here), and my second question is "does some way exist to keep this variable whenever I become root?" (yes, I could just set it manually each time, but takes away the fun of learning something new :) ). |

Hi curmudgeon,
I have never experienced what you have described. However, why not use the global profile to set it?

It's easy to set a static value that way, but the variable depends on the terminal colors, which aren't constant for my uses. I want some way of just carrying over whatever I have set at the time when I become root. |

Does the -p option to su preserve this environment variable? _________________ emerge --quiet redefined | E17 vids: I, II | Now using kde5 | e is unstable :-/ |
