Teegrins, shoelesshunter78!

For one, it would make the output a bit easier to read if you used the code-tags for that, too. :)

Second, you did well on including the the --info, but that doesn't tell anything about the build, nor the error. So please, also post the complete build-log.

If it's horribly long, use a pastebin for it (make friends with wgetpaste if need be).

Thanks!

My reply is off topic but I think u should add
-march=core2 or -march=native to CFLAGS and CXXFLAGS

( just to get some better optimizations, not to solve that issue )

Also u can add MAKEOPTS="-j2" or MAKEOPTS="-j3 " to make.conf (it defines how many parallel compilations should occur, it should speed up compilation)

mir3x, thank you, but I have not added MAKE_OPTS because this installation is virtualized on an older machine and I don't want portage using too many resources.

also, where can I find the requested build log? I am fairly green here.

Generally, under

Code:
/var/tmp/portage/

When a build fails, one should see something like this:

Code:
 * ERROR: media-video/mkvtoolnix-6.7.0::gentoo failed (compile phase):
 *   (no error message)
 *
 * Call stack:
 *     ebuild.sh, line  93:  Called src_compile
 *   environment, line 2923:  Called die
 * The specific snippet of code:
 *       ./drake V=1 -j$(makeopts_jobs) || die
 *
 * If you need support, post the output of `emerge --info '=media-video/mkvtoolnix-6.7.0::gentoo'`,
 * the complete build log and the output of `emerge -pqv '=media-video/mkvtoolnix-6.7.0::gentoo'`.
 * The complete build log is located at '/mnt/iso/portage-stuff/logs/media-video:mkvtoolnix-6.7.0:20140305-095339.log'.
 * For convenience, a symlink to the build log is located at '/var/tmp/portage/media-video/mkvtoolnix-6.7.0/temp/build.log'.
 * The ebuild environment file is located at '/var/tmp/portage/media-video/mkvtoolnix-6.7.0/temp/environment'.
 * Working directory: '/var/tmp/portage/media-video/mkvtoolnix-6.7.0/work/mkvtoolnix-6.7.0'
 * S: '/var/tmp/portage/media-video/mkvtoolnix-6.7.0/work/mkvtoolnix-6.7.0'

You should see exactly where, according to your settings. I had some non-default path-action going on there, for which reason a symbolic link is created. I believe you will not see that part when using defaults.

this is the output of emerge however the log file listed here is an empty file.

Empty, eh.

Not quite sure what to make of that right now, but what if you use the old default behaviour provided by the --quiet-build=n option? This doesn't change anything regarding them logs, but you should see the build going in the console.

Is something actually happening?

that imule is just broken probably - its version 1.4 ( over 2 years ago ? )

For me imule failed too with error:
In file included from MuleDebug.cpp:47:0:
/usr/include/bfd.h:37:2: error: #error config.h must be included before this header

shoelesshunter78 - You did: cat /var/tmp/portage/net-p2p/imule-1.4.6/temp/build.log
and it said its empty ?

Search google for some newer ebuild like those maybe ? github.com/teknohog/ebuilds/tree/master/net-p2p/imule
