My original title had a probably in it but that didn't fit the subject size, so this title will have to do. _________________ What looks like a cat, flies like a bat, brays like a donkey, and plays like a monkey? |

On the one hand I second the opinion that he should be fired. Not because he doesn't have a degree, but because he obviously lied about having one.
On the other hand, though, if he's doing a good job, why not?
It's different from zu Guttenberg in Germany, in whose case I argued the other way round, because zu Guttenberg was a minister and thus I found it important that he's credible. That and because he kept on lying about his degree until the end. _________________ Kali Ma

Agreed.

Semi agreed.
Fraud should never be excused, so a penalty must be paid. If his performance is worthy, then punish him financially... otherwise fire him for fraud. _________________ If I had a dollar for every time capitalism was blamed for the problems caused by government, I'd be a fat filmmaker with a baseball cap |

At this point I should probably bring to your notice, lot of CEOs didn't have degrees. Successful CEOs. _________________ What looks like a cat, flies like a bat, brays like a donkey, and plays like a monkey? |

That is well known. The issue here is the fraud. _________________ If I had a dollar for every time capitalism was blamed for the problems caused by government, I'd be a fat filmmaker with a baseball cap |

I believe you, most people also do a career change during their lives etc.
Anyway, in the meantime he could have aquired a degree in psychology or something... _________________ Gentoo on Uptime Project - Larry is a cow |

No reason to. If a talent is discovered that is recognized, why does a sheepskin matter at that point? _________________ If I had a dollar for every time capitalism was blamed for the problems caused by government, I'd be a fat filmmaker with a baseball cap |

And its probably due to the fact that they had nothing to come up with when Google appeared back in 90s, not because their CEO doesn't have a degree.
Say what you want, but back then Google as a search engine was like a breath of fresh air. |

Their CEO doesn't have a degree, integrity, or any idea of how to arrest their decline or hire someone who does. So he's useless regardless of when the decline started. _________________

I would think that the CEO not having a degree is the least of Yahoos problems. |

You'd be surprised how many people still use yahoo for their homepage. (I'm very surprised, at least.)
The main thing I would do is eliminate front page advertisements. No sane person should want big honking pop-ups to fumble through just to access their webmail. |

It's not that he doesn't have a degree, it's that he lied on his resume (about a particular degree). The issue is not his educational credentials but his ethics.
However, there may be more to this. The old "lied on his resume" thing is a tactic HR uses when they want to fire somebody or breach their contract with an employee. It may simply be that the Board of Directors wants to fire him, but he's got some fat golden parachute package in contract, so they looked for a lie on his resume or employment application as a way to get out of their obligation to pay it.
You can twist things a bit on your resume, but never completely mis-state facts. Never lie on your employment application (better just to leave things out -- for other than low-level positions, employment applications are usually something they hand you after the decision has been made to hire you). Once you have lied on that form, which will be kept on file for decades if you work there that long, they have the ability to shit-can you at any time (and it's a firing, not a lay-off, so you get no unemployment benefits). _________________ Oldthinkers unbellyfeel INGSOC.

since yahoo took over eurosports website, comments vanish, thumbs up/downs are lost, the site is dead slow and searching for elderly articles is a complete nightmare.
Yahoo has overstayed its welcome. _________________
