You can measure the time that a command (like emerge) takes to run by using the "time" command.
You might also be interested in genlop (which you need to install separately). I don't think you will have any problem finding usage examples around the net and in this very forum. _________________ Gentoo Handbook | My website |

genlop also works for current emerges, but needs a completed emerge to give you an estimate.

| If you have not yet built the package, then estimating the time requirement is difficult. The time requirement depends on what features you enabled and how much CPU/memory/disk are available to the build process. |

See genlop's -q flag. It'll only work if your CPU/package combination is in the database though.

genlop also has a -pretend option. Just pipe an emerge to genlop -p. Just like others have said, genlop needs previously installed packages to be accurate.
| Code: | | emerge world -uDNpv --with-bdeps=y | genlop -p |

Again, genlop. There's nothing else. The more you use it the better the estimation should be. Still an estimation, though. _________________ Gentoo Handbook | My website |
