You can't just unmask *some* of the x11-libs/qt-* packages, you have to do them all. They all need to be of the same version.

I had this problem a couple of weeks ago. It appears to happen when qt versions go up. In my case it seemed to be circular dependencies or something like it. Masking a load of qts to the 4.7.4 version made portage happy. Unmerging (and unmasking) a load of them then running emerge --update --deep etc resulted in portage not complaining and proceeding to emerge the 4.8.1 versions. Sorry I can't remember exactly what I unmerged, but I would try that.
