Hi everybody, Gentoo newbie here, coming from Arch. I have an 12" iBook G3, 'dual USB' 600mhz model A1005. Sleep/suspend is supposed to work on this model per the PPC faq:
Code:
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-ppc-faq.xml#sleep:
Sleep (suspend to ram) works very well on all G3 iBooks and TiBooks.

and per this post:
Code:
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-393668-start-0.html
Sleep is working, usb, bunch of other stuff -- and sound is working via alsa.

However, it doesn't work for me. The laptop suspends fine and the white led starts pulsating, however on resume all I get is a blank screen. The backlight comes on and the drives spin up, but the computer is completely nonresponsive and only a reboot via ctrl+cmd+power will get it working again. I've tried multiple kernels and userspace setups. My testing method is to first rmmod all unnecessary modules to get rid of possible driver problems, then "echo -n mem > /sys/power/state".

Does anybody have an iBook G3 or similar where sleep works? Maybe someone could mail me their binary kernel/initrd along with the output of lsmod. If I could just get it working _at all_ in any configuration, I could start to troubleshoot by applying one change at a time until it no longer works. Suspend works great on my Pismo, but I have not seen the new iBook successively sleep once (except in OS X, where it works fine).

The only thing I can think of is that perhaps you're using KMS? As far as I know KMS isn't working for sleep, you'll need to stick with the old UMS drivers. Beyond that, I'm not sure I can help much, sorry!
