|

I have like to install Gentoo on 4 different machines (old but very cheap), put them in a LAN, and use them as help to emerge large packages or to update world. The only problem is that I live in a flat and have no place for them. The only possibility is to put them in the the cellar, but there is no internet signal there. I tried to enforce my wi-fi with some home-made stuff, but unsuccessfully, and I don't want to pay for a repeater or something like that.
Reading "man emerge" I see there is a --fetch-only option which could be useful to fetch ebuilds in my flat, and I want to know how could I do to run compilation/installation after that, when I go downstairs in the cellar. Is possible to do that? How?
Thank

If you use --fetchonly upstairs, then no internet connection will be required downstairs, so long as the machines all have access to the /usr/portage/distfiles that was fetched upstairs. Just- Emerge with the --fetchonly upstairs.
- Emerge like normal, without the --fetchonly option, downstairs.
