I'm sure this is possible, I would like some ideas.

I use my phone all the time. Perhaps more than my laptop. I'm a field engineer so I take photos with it, scan in paperwork, make .zips with it, email, fax, etc. etc. Sometimes it is more convenient, perhaps faster, to copy files (usually pictures) to my computer before emailing them in. It would be nice if via wifi or some other means (perhaps the cloud??), everything on my phone could be picked up easily from my laptop without needing a usb cable.

I was thinking of not going the cloud route because its probably going to be expensive. While I do have google docs on my phone, it doesn't seem to automatically sync files. Besides it seems to me like google docs is perfect for docs, not so great for photos and such.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

If you have wi-fi available on your local network, it's pretty easy to do. I use a free Android utility called File Expert that understands Samba...so I just set up a Samba file share on my Gentoo file server and wirelessly copy files back and forth at will.

Thank you guys.

Samba sounds like a good method... I'll give it a go. ;)

You should give www-apps/owncloud a try. It can sync files, contacts, calendar, gallery. I have owncloud running on my vserver because i don't trust google & co.

Moved from Gentoo Chat to Other Things Gentoo since Gentoo Chat isn't a support forum.
