dev-perl/File-MMagic and excel xls mime type

Hi,

I'm using dev-perl/File-MMagic to determine mime types.
It doesn't seem to work well with Microsoft Excel 97-2003 documents. File-MMagic detects these as application/msword.
So if I use File-MMagic within Apache in order to rewrite content types, the browser clients may open the .xls document in MSWord application.

I'm not sure if File-MMagic is actively maintained. Is there a Perl alternative?
