USB Headset / ALSA problem - (capture)

Hi all,

I have a very strange problem with my Plantronics Blackwire C210M USB headset.

Audio output works fine.
Capture works fine with arecord in a variety of formats (different rates, stereo, mono etc)
Capture works fine in some software (example - fldigi)
Capture does not produce any audio in either Ekiga or Skype.

It doesn't matter what I do, I can create new PCM devices, plug devices, mix stereo down to mono, etc etc in .asoundrc. All of these devices work with arecord but not in Skype or Ekiga.

The only thing I can come up with is that the raw device (hw not plughw) cannot record in mono. However, the plughw device (and the default device for this card) both can. I have tried putting a stereo -> mono mix device into .asoundrc but again this device works for arecord but not for Skype or Ekiga.

Your input would be most appreciated!
