|

Hey all,
I run a local Gentoo mirror to support 18 boxes. This mirror updates once every night to the official Gentoo servers. I have been using the default SRC="rsync://rsync.de.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage"
Starting yesterday, my local mirror's /opt/gentoo-rsync/portage directory was empty. I have the identical setup on another network, and the portage mirror is working fine on that one. Very strange:
drwxrwxrwt 141 root root 48 Mar 29 09:55 portage/
All writable with the sticky bit set. Definitely not normal. So I tried running rsync-gentoo-portage.sh by hand. No luck. I changed my mirror to SRC="rsync://rsync.namerica.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage". Same problem. When I try to run rsync by hand, here is the output:
/usr/bin/rsync -avn rsync://rsync.de.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage /opt/gentoo-rsync/portagetest/
This is rsync12.de.gentoo.org.

This machine is also called rsync24.us.gentoo.org
@ERROR: chroot failed
rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (548 bytes read so far)
rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(189)
No file list downloaded. I have verified rsync copying another remote server, and rsync seems to be working fine for other applications. "connection unexpectedly closed" Could I have been caught in some sort of blacklist? I sync by cron once a night, to service 18 machines, thinking I was being a good citizen. Any thoughts on the 'chroot failed' error? The machine is using make.profile of "/usr/portage/profiles/hardened/x86/"
Thanks,
Mayyah

My caching name server seems to have stuck on rsync24.us.gentoo.org aka lug.mtu.edu.
Can anyone else confirm that rsync to lug.mtu.edu bombs? I think there may be a bum server in the Gentoo mirror rotation.
Thanks,
Mayyah |

rsync rsync://rsync12.de.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage
This is rsync12.de.gentoo.org.
drwxrwx--T 40 2005/03/28 18:35:31 .
Looks like I hit the jackpot with two bad Gentoo mirrors. I have tried both rsync12.de.gentoo.org and rsync rsync24.us.gentoo.org from other networks and get the same results.
Can anyone confirm? |

Necroposting ftw!
Yeah this very server looks screwed up, I'm syncing via ipv6.. still lug.mtu.edu though.
rsync error: some files/attrs were not transferred (see previous errors) (code 23) at main.c(1518) [generator=3.0.9] and a bunch of permission denied errors earlier on, other mirrors just fine.
EDIT: should note, this has been doing this for almost a week now. |
