I'm attempting to use magnet links with tixati software (a client for torrents, I'm at the end of my tether with vuze and bittorrent). In file REAME.txt it states:
Step 5: (optional)
If you want to use magnet-links, issue the following commands:
gconftool-2 --set --type=string /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/magnet/command 'tixati "%s"'
gconftool-2 --set --type=string /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/magnet/enabled true
gconftool-2 --set --type=string /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/magnet/need-terminal false
Well...

I've tried to create files manually (in /etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults/desktop/gnome/url-handlers), to understand the structure of schemas, whatever, but can't stay there years... I'm not a gnome user, I'm on xfce4 with some gnome functionality.
And yep, restarting dbus does not fix the problem.
I emerged dconf... a different syntax on a topic that is arabic to me.

well, I'm returning on this topic only to reassure anyone who's having the same "problem", that it is not, in fact, a problem 
So don't waste your time and enjoy this fantastic piece of software.
These errors popped up when I was configuring tixati, before actually to use it. But for the program to recognise magnet link, no config at all was needed: tixati recognises the magnet link and in a matter of seconds you are sharing files (with a very good chance to get reliable e speedy peers from where to download)
