i am building up gentoo on my sisters pc, i almost have it 100% user friendly but i have mail-notification woes. for 1, i am using gdm autologin to load gnome, 2 its freaking out about gnome keyring on boot, 3 the 'passwords and encryption keys' show plaintext versions of the email passwords, 4 i must have the old AOL "you've got mail" , 5 compiling with mozilla -evo use flags does not load thunderbird upon click.
testing on my personal machine's 4 emails requires 4 keyring passwords, clearly this is unacceptable behavior and i miss good ole xfce4-mailwatch... i dont like evolution so im really in a pinch here. i refuse to make the keyring password blank for auto login.
big thanks in advance to any linux gods that properly address this.
to address myself some more with epic answers....
emerge gnubiff
reboot after emerge
then right click on panel, and scroll all the way to the bottom to add gnubiff.
for sound (the "play /usr/share/gnubiff/coin.wav" command)
emerge sox
then simply change the command for mail reader to open /usr/bin/thunderbird-bin
i dislike the penguin, but gnubiff decided to let me drop my own images into it, so next up ill fetch xfce4-mailwatch and nab the imagery from that only 1/2 of the way done, this pc is slow =( |
