Dear experts,

some days ago the upgrade from qtwebkit-4.8.7 -> qtwebkit-5.6.2 failed and yet also mesa-13.0.5 -> mesa-17.0.6. Unfortunately, I can not extract any useful information from the log. Could someone help me figuring out what is going wrong?

Did you check that the build of _all_ the packages slated for rebuild actually succeeded?

Probably is the problem.
The best way to execute revdep-rebuild is with --keep-going option
Code:
# revdep-rebuild --library 'libstdc++.so.6' -- --exclude gcc --keep-going y

When a package return an error revdep-rebuild compile anyway the others and you can rebuild later those that have given error

One thing to remember on -bin packages is that they are NOT recompiled, so when you reinstall one of them, they simply copy the files over; meaning it does not fix the linking as that needs the package to be rebuilt...

One thing you have to know, is that really SOLVES THIS problem, even if it is a -bin package.
I had this problem on 3 computers, and solved it like that 3 times.

On an unrelated note, openoffice-bin-4.1.3 is a n c i e n t - I recommend anyone still riding that dinosaur jump over to libreoffice(-bin) instead.

Many thanks for the informations. The 2.try with
Code:
sysvorOrt michi  # revdep-rebuild --library 'libstdc++.so.6' -- --exclude gcc --keep-going y
works and mesa was compiled without errors. After that I could start an world - update

If you compile mesa with gcc5, you need to rebuild llvm with gcc5.

emerge llvm

If you switch to gcc from 4.x to 5.x you need to run command revdep-rebuild --library 'libstdc++.so.6' -- --exclude gcc --keep-going y

Yeah, but if llvm comes up later in the process (these things happen) anything using it will fail.
Perhaps we need to add --with-bdeps=y at the end of that; that smells, though (I can see it pulling in too much.)

llvm is a toolchain package, just like gcc, binutils or perl. There's a case for it being part of emerge --info (when installed.)

The only solution I found is :
Code:
emerge -C openoffice-bin && emerge -a openoffice-bin

I had 4.1.4 installed, but yes, it does solve the terrible interminable rebuild loop. Well done noob.
