If it's a fixture with a non-removable shade or receptacle that prevents you from reaching that part, then just be careful not to twist too hard. If you break one anyway, throw it away and get a non-retarded fixture which allows full access to the bulb.

Also, if there isn't room to reach in there, it probably wasn't safe for an incandescent bulb to begin with, which have minimum safe distances they are supposed to be from surrounding material they will otherwise make hot (like those recessed lights the size of a tin can, which set houses on fire).

None they don't screw in light bulbs. They screw in their parent's basement.

The lightbulbs came today.
  • They are heavy.
  • The box itself makes no claim about equivalent incandescent wattage.
  • An enclosed warning states unsuitability for enclosed fixtures and damp areas.
The 580 lumen bulbs seem to work well for downward fixtures that used to take 60 W incandescents.

My desk lamp's CFL just died 10 minutes ago.
I think I might get an LED replacement.

Don't think about it unless it clamps. These things are heavy.

Did it live up to the tales in Green Mythology, or did it die way too soon?

Limbaugh would say that I can buy whatever the hell I want, so long as I don't condemn others for not following my practices. And if I later decide that I want to buy a Prius, I will.

He'd also draw the line at whatever you want to buy at actually buying it. No government regulation requiring electric companies to provide free bulbs.

I wonder what Jörg Haider would say about that vein that bulges out on your forehead when you get all worked up and emotional. Oh, wait, I forgot -- he had a "car accident".

I did play with LED Perimeter display under the lighting subtacle and found it very interesting.

"the lighting subtacle". Indeed. LEDs are nice, but spam isn't. Even spam about LEDs. URL removed.

Oh, and why was this replied to, but not reported?

we got new halogen fixtures last year. They suck. It's a nightmare to change bulbs.

my wife can't take any hospital style lights, so we had to change everything from crap lights to nice lights. Frankly, the place looks a million times better, so I agree. I can't stand florescent lights. Not worth the savings.

I replaced the hf 6' T8 fluorescent lights in my workshop with led tubes. They were £50 each but it is chargeable to tax. They are just as bright with daylight colour. I bought some 3' one also for another project. :)

Since this old thread got resurrected from the dead, there have been some advancements in LED technology. Namely from Sylvania.

http://www.amazon.com/Sylvania-78952-20-watt-A21-Ultra/dp/B009ZWB8PU/ref=pd_sim_hi_2

The price is insane, but it has 83 lumens/watt which is a bit better than any CFL will do.

I don't think I'll get any. I already have other LEDs throughout my apartment.

Do you have anything from Cree? They're supposed to be good and aren't horribly expensive. Even dimmable. I'm considering trying one (haven't been to a home improvement store in a while).

Given the majority of the fixtures in my house, the LEDs I have are bidirectional. I have these two models, in particular:

http://store.earthled.com/products/earthled-zetalux-2-pro-led-light-bulb#.UVt_L5PvvIo
http://store.earthled.com/products/earthled-thetalux-9-watt-led-light-bulb#.UVt_NZPvvIo

Wow, prices on those guys have really come down. Like, by half.

Whoa, stop EVERYTHING!!!

A Way Better Deal Directly from Cree

A 13W CFL will match a 60W incandescent. This bastard eats less than 10W, and goes for just over $10 per bulb. It has a five-star rating on average. No shit.

I think that's one I was looking at (from whichever source turned me onto the brand).

It also has a CRI of 80. The LEDs I originally pointed you to have a CRI of 72.
