|
|
I have a NIC (3com 3cr990) that's unsupported by the Gentoo installer. I built a driver from the source code for kernel 2.4.18 under both RedHat and Debian, but neither will load into the installer's kernel. I've also tried installing a base3 system and compiling it within Gentoo, but for whatever reason I'm unable to build it with kernel source installed by the base3 package. So, is there anyway to install Gentoo using 2.4.18, so I'll be able to load my driver for the installation? I'm hoping that after I get everything installed and uptodate I'll be able to build the driver using Gentoo's optimized kernel so that I can go back and do a complete base1 install, but I'm very quickly running out of ideas on how I can get to that point. Thanks alot. |

Too new ?
Would 3com site have driver (probably already tried )
How about throwing in dirt cheap d-link 530tx,
I have one new price less than $13 Cdn
Just until 3com or linux gets up to speed w/drivers
Delta407 uses (530) rates it satisfactory. Bought mine before cable company
informed me they give customer 3com (3905 ? saves techie install hassles)
Just a thought,

If you can, it's possible to install gentoo from within another (working) linux installatation.
So you can skip the networking bit, and use your current networking connection to install Gentoo, and configure it with any desired kernel.
Similar to this:

Good luck. |
