Took me a while to figure out how to get my Epson Stylus SX610FW to scan via a network connection, so hopefully writing this will save someone some time, and me if I ever have to do it again
First, install Epson's own image scanning package: iscan
As setup by default, iscan will only work with a USB connected printer. To use a networked printer, you need Epson's networking addon: iscan-network-nt
This isn't in portage[1], so get it from here:
I downloaded the rpm version. Extract it with your favourite program, I used ark
From the rpm, copy the file 'usr/lib/iscan/network' to '/usr/lib/iscan/network'
Now add the following line to /etc/sane.d/epkowa.conf
Substitute <ip-address> for your printer's ip address on your network.
That's all there is to it. Now iscan should detect and scan from your networked Epson printer. I expect this procedure should work with Epson's other multifunction printers.
[1] I did find an ebuild for this package here. I didn't , but you might prefer to use that. _________________ Things you might say if you never took Physics: "I'm overweight even though I don't overeat." - Neil deGrasse Tyson |
