Posted: Wed May 25, 2011 1:09 pm Post subject: googleearth signal 11 [SOLVED] |
|
|
on my x86 notebook with intel graphics
(1.10.1.902 xorg-server / 2.15.0 intel driver)
I installed googleearth 6.0.3.2197
When I try to start googleearth as a regular user, one of
two things happen
1. A crash with "caught signal 11" error (crashlog below)
2. A window pops up asking if I want to try "directx mode";
whether I say "yes" or "no" googleearth starts with very
bad performance and screen corruption
BUT - if I use kdesu googleearth and run it as root,
everything works perfectly
permissions in ~/.googleearth and ~/.config/Google seem OK
here's a crashlog

I answer myself and to anyone having the same problem
Stacktrace from glibc:
./libgoogleearth_free.so(+0xab953)[0xf76bf953]
./libgoogleearth_free.so(+0xabad3)[0xf76bfad3]
[0xffffe400]
/usr/lib32/libcrypto.so.1.0.0(X509_subject_name_cmp+0x2e)[0xf443931e]
/usr/lib32/libcrypto.so.1.0.0(+0xd13e2)[0xf44403e2]
/usr/lib32/libcrypto.so.0.9.8(OBJ_bsearch_ex+0x4a)[0xe09ff08a]
/usr/lib32/libcrypto.so.0.9.8(+0x8d206)[0xe0a54206]
/usr/lib32/libcrypto.so.0.9.8(X509_OBJECT_retrieve_match+0x26)[0xe0a8d366]
The problem was obviously that I was using two versions of libcrypto... by renaming the older, google earth starts normally.
Now I¡m facing the fonts issue... |

If anyone gets this far and still needs help, another solution to this problem, which worked for me, is detailed in the 19/11/2011 post by trefoil1 below
https://groups.google.com/a/googleproductforums.com/forum/#!category-topic/earth/problems-and-errors/qNXOkluskdQ
Code: | The following solves this for me: Change to the directory where google earth has its libraries (it is /opt/google/earth/free for my Fedora install) and run the commands:
wget http://librarian.launchpad.net/7037027/libGL.so.1
chmod a+x libGL.so.1
