The paper was good enough. The people weren't.

Yeah, that was where I was coming from.

Other than that issue of *ahem* personal servitude.

Well that's obviously false: it isn't better than the Articles of Confederation, for example.

The Articles of Confederation lasted 8 years (thanks wikipedia) before being replaced by the constitution. Using your argument that a piece of paper that fails to prevent tyranny is bad, wasn't the AoC much worse than the constitution?

Obviously not but nice try, R. I think you managed to put enough polish on that turd of an argument to slip it by someone who isn't paying full attention.

The Articles were written for the Revolutionary Interim Government, and were never meant to govern the Nation.

I agree that something closer in intent to the Articles of Confederation would be better, but I don't think the Articles of Confederation was a very well-crafted constitution.

By the way, saying that richk449's post was a polished turd of an argument was unjustifiably dickish of you.

I assumed he was joking, because I was just using his argument. If my argument about the AoC was a turd, then his argument about the constitution was too.

Oh, I see. He was being self-deprecating and calling his own argument a turd. I missed that.

Didn't mean to be a dick, I was just teasing you, R. Nothing but love.

Suppose I say the Tata Nano sucks because it is unsafe in a crash. Then R comes along and says his friend traded his Volvo for a Nano and was killed in a crash, proving that Volvos aren't safe either!

Or if you don't like that, I'll just appeal to R's original post and mumble something about the Articles being better relatively speaking.

So you mean you weren't being self-deprecating and were actually being a dick for no reason. :P
