|
|
Rough English summary:
| Quote: | This Italian cruise ship captain abandoning ship is typical of pompous, hand-waving Italians who are all about show with nothing beneath. Can you imagine a German or British sea captain doing something like this?
Okay, maybe that's racist, but hey, we've been portrayed for decades as the Hun, just waiting for the opportunity to strike again. The British say we have no sense of humor. The French make fun of British food, and the Belgians say the Dutch are greedy.
(The article then goes on to draw analogies with the Euro crisis blah blah blah....) |

| …the only redeeming fact about that article is that they published the response of the italian ambassador below it. |

Reading all the article, (and apparently most journalists didn't), the author is just trying to be brilliant but what he says appears stupid. Berlusconi accused several times the Merkel of being behind his demise, and his media just went on the attack on this with big titles like 'The Italians are not a race? The Germans demonstrated they are a race in Auschwitz' or other nazi puns like that. Followed by interminable fanta-nazi doku that would have interested a lot BK. Non Berlusconi controlled media had better things to do

So, basically, it's the non-English speaking Europeans failing at comedy. Why is this news? We call this normal. _________________

This is more like a blog/column within Spiegel
Jan Fleischhauer often writes up really funny articles, other than this woman who hates men...
//edit: lol, 'Fahrerflucht' hit and run
//edit: and they claim Germans have no sense of humour: "Der Botschafter der Italienischen Republik, Michele Valensise, hat uns zu der obenstehenden Kolumne folgenden Brief geschickt", the Italien ambassador complained about the article... _________________ Gentoo on Uptime Project - Larry is a cow |

More a political attack to the new government and his friends abroad. Berlusconi already warned that there will an anti-german backlash in Italy if his interests are not taken care by the new government.
Slightly related:

| Quote: | THE HAGUE, Netherlands — The U.N.’s highest court confirmed Friday that Germany has legal immunity from being sued in foreign courts by victims of World War II Nazi atrocities.
The International Court of Justice said that Italy’s Supreme Court violated Germany’s sovereignty in 2008 by judging that an Italian civilian, Luigi Ferrini, was entitled to reparations for his deportation to Germany in 1944 to work as a slave laborer in the armaments industry. |

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Schulz
| Quote: | Berlusconi incident
On July 2, 2003, one day after taking over the rotating presidency of the EU Council of Ministers, Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi of Italy was heavily criticised by MEP Martin Schulz because of Berlusconi's domestic policy. Berlusconi replied:
"Signor Schulz, so che in Italia c'è un produttore che sta montando un film sui campi di concentramento nazisti: la suggerirò per il ruolo di kapò. Lei è perfetto!“
In English: "Mister Schulz, I know of a movie-producer in Italy who is making a film about Nazi concentration-camps. I will recommend you for the part of a Kapo (concentration-camp inmate appointed as supervisor). You are perfect!"
Berlusconi later claimed he was referring to the comedy-series Hogan's Heroes, where a slow-witted character named Sgt. Hans Georg Schultz, played by John Banner, starred.
Even though Berlusconi insisted that he was just ironic, his comparisons with the Nazis caused a brief diplomatic rift between Italy and Germany.
Incident with Godfrey Bloom
On 24 November 2010 the British MEP Godfrey Bloom caused a row in the European Parliament when he interrupted a speech by Martin Schulz, heckling him with the Nazi propaganda slogan ‘Ein Volk, ein Reich, ein Führer’ (‘one people, one empire, one leader’) and accusing him of being an ‘undemocratic fascist’. In the debate on the future of the Euro Stability Pact Schulz had criticised the role played by the United Kingdom, which was involved in the discussions despite not being a member of the eurozone, and said that some eurosceptics would take pleasure in the collapse of the European Union. Following the incident, the President of Parliament, Jerzy Buzek, excluded Bloom from the Chamber[4]. The Dutch MEP Barry Madlener, from the right-wing populist Partij voor de Vrijheid (PVV - Freedom Party), then protested against that decision, on the grounds that Schulz himself had recently described the PVV MEP Daniël van der Stoep as a fascist, but had not been excluded from the Chamber. |
Man, would it be awesome to be a German in European politics _________________ Please refer to "Austria" as "Republik Österreich" or "Republik Oesterreich" to avoid misunderstandings. Thank you.

It's so hard not to equate Schulz to a fascist piece of shit, because that's exactly what he is. _________________

Asked what twice?
But no, because time and again he supports anti-democratic authoritarian policies. _________________

If you consider that Berlusconis father was a Verbindungsoffizier (Liaison officer) between the SS and the Italian Army he really knows what a nazi looks like _________________ Truck!!

They're our neighbors, we share (about) the same language, just the weather is a little colder.

well, all of northern France belongs to Germany. It was taken away in countless wars, almost all started by France.
And for Poland: Hanseatic League and Prussia.
There are some claims that hold up better than polish 'but we really wanted to have Danzig'.
About Austria:
we joke about them. They are hilarious to watch. But they also keep Italy away and whenever there is something really shamefull going on (Mr Wulff, I am looking at you) we can be sure that Austria will do something stupid to distract everybody.
So, just like younger siblings. _________________

The newspaper is Libero, "the voice of Berlusconi", together with il Giornale, owned by (the brother of) Berlusconi. It is those 2 newspapers that are publishing most of the anti-german propaganda in the recent days.
Both newspapers are famous for their racist publications against Islam and muslim in general. Now they turned to Germany ..... responsible for the demise of their 'Dear Leader'.
The 2 newspapers together sell some 100.000 copies ........ not exactly mass diffusion _________________ Truck!!
