From the few audio equipment makers, who don't charge a premium for their product, just because of their name, Sony stands out.
Sony's stereo and speakers are not uber expensive and give you good performance. Maybe the batch they're sending to America is faulty, deliberately.

Bose falls under the category which charges premium for its products, just so that it can be considered a premium product.
