Scott Armstrong, cofounder of the Journal of Forecasting and the International Journal of Forecasting; Jan Breslow, head of the Laboratory of Biochemical Genetics and Metabolism, Rockefeller University; Roger Cohen, fellow, American Physical Society; Edward David, member, National Academy of Engineering and National Academy of Sciences; William Happer, professor of physics, Princeton; Michael Kelly, professor of technology, University of Cambridge, U.K.; William Kininmonth, former head of climate research at the Australian Bureau of Meteorology; Richard Lindzen, professor of atmospheric sciences, MIT; James McGrath, professor of chemistry, Virginia Technical University; Rodney Nichols, former president and CEO of the New York Academy of Sciences; Burt Rutan, aerospace engineer, designer of Voyager and SpaceShipOne; Harrison H. Schmitt, Apollo 17 astronaut and former U.S. senator; Nir Shaviv, professor of astrophysics, Hebrew University, Jerusalem; Henk Tennekes, former director, Royal Dutch Meteorological Service; Antonio Zichichi, president of the World Federation of Scientists, Geneva.

Quote:
In September, Nobel Prize-winning physicist Ivar Giaever, a supporter of President Obama in the last election, publicly resigned from the American Physical Society (APS) with a letter that begins: "I did not renew [my membership] because I cannot live with the [APS policy] statement: 'The evidence is incontrovertible: Global warming is occurring. If no mitigating actions are taken, significant disruptions in the Earth's physical and ecological systems, social systems, security and human health are likely to occur. We must reduce emissions of greenhouse gases beginning now.' In the APS it is OK to discuss whether the mass of the proton changes over time and how a multi-universe behaves, but the evidence of global warming is incontrovertible?"

In spite of a multidecade international campaign to enforce the message that increasing amounts of the "pollutant" carbon dioxide will destroy civilization, large numbers of scientists, many very prominent, share the opinions of Dr. Giaever. And the number of scientific "heretics" is growing with each passing year. The reason is a collection of stubborn scientific facts.

Here's a little cartoon to go along with it, for flavor.

I agree unequivocally that there are at least 16 respected scientists, including experts in the field, who say what's in that article, and a Nobel Laureate who had some similar gripe.

What do you mean, "to what end"? It is what it is. What does it matter what I think?

That's why you don't post random articles and invent random headlines for them.

Maybe you should have read this before posting.

The original article is too f*cking stupid for words. Where's the science? If you're going to argue against a well-established theory which is supported by virtually everyone who works in the field, you ought to have some evidence. All I see is a hatchet job attacking the motives and ethics of those involved in the practice and funding of climate science. The world has not stopped warming in the last ten years - but even the claim that ten years is a significant length of time with regard to climate trends is scientifically illiterate. Warming will not be beneficial. Even a small amount of warming will drive up food prices and create shortages.

For example:

Quote:
existing models underestimate the effects of heat on senescence. As the onset of senescence is an important limit to grain filling, and therefore grain yields, crop models probably underestimate yield losses for +2 °C by as much as 50% for some sowing dates. These results imply that warming presents an even greater challenge to wheat than implied by previous modelling studies

That this was published in a paper owned by a man up to his neck in a phone-hacking scandal in the UK ought to give you a clue as to its reliability. Cheats and liars, every one of them,

Can't stop laughing at that, it's so apt..

It was just as apt four years ago, when we were listening to Edwards, Clinton, and Obama bickering with each other.

Fail. You said, "invent random headlines". So, are you illiterate, lazy, or just ADD? Which is it?

The headline has absolutely nothing to do with the quoted text, that's which it is, little buddy. Do you understand now or should I try to make myself more clear?

Fail. Your excuse is not even rational, son. You said "invent random headline". You have sort of covered the "random" part, but there is no escaping the fact that you thought I crafted the thread title myself. Your excuse is pathetic and not even rational.

Why don't you just be a man and say, "Oops. I didn't look. I assumed. My bad."?

So, option (b), then. Lazy and prejudicial. Thank you for finally being man enough to admit it. Enough about that.
