You must love the election coverage in media. Somehow Romney (ok I don't know about him) is being portrayed as the bad guy in British news papers like Guardian.

Actually Guardian is a third-class news paper, I shouldn't be quoting it.

Wasn't he cleared of the ethics violations?

Divorce is a far better choice than remaining married because of some ignorant interpretation of a fable.

I think maybe Gingrich is getting shut down by the Party establishment because they don't believe he can beat Obama.

They're probably right. While he'd be more likely to fire up the Republican base, Romney is more likely to appeal to swing voters. The numbers point to a close race, so those swing voters will be critical.

Funny how they wanted nothing to do with a moderate 3 years ago, now they think they've got a prize in Romney.

Though I must say, I'm reconsidering how dangerous he might be after hearing an attack ad featuring his "leave it alone" position wrt MA law while he was governor. That's all well and admirable, but it remains unclear how he'll pander to the right if elected.

I don't think anybody wants Romney. Not the right, the left, anyone. He's the last man standing but he doesn't inspire anyone. Reagan made people believe "it's morning in America". Romney is a damp November afternoon in Long Island.

Yeah, but just wait 'til they break out the campaign slogan: "Optimism and Vicissitude". Catchy, yes? :o

Actually, I think the campaign slogan will be "He's not Obama".

There are no "Regan" candidates. With what we have to choose from, I think Romney has a better chance than Gingrich.

Things that matter in American Presidential elections:

1. Good looks.
2. Age.
3. A degree from Harvard University.

There's only two possible outcomes of this election. Either more of the same or Ron Paul. Sure there are minor differences between Obama, Romney, Gingrich and Santroum, but not enough to matter. When it comes down to it they're all Authoritarian, Pro-War, Big Government politicians. As the late George Carlin said these election give us the illusion of free choice. The fact is we have no real choice, we have owners.

Reagan (note the spelling) was very much a Romney (Governor of California and a goofy actor from the 40s), and he was also old. He even had a bit of palsy.

On the other hand, he was good on camera, and Romney is not. Romney comes across as cheesy and fake, in my opinion. But, he's getting lots of practice and coaching between now and the actual race.

I would say there are more than minor difference between obama/romney, santorum and gingerich. Santorum is whoie hog govt in your face, whereas gingerich will bomb the fuck out of any country that lets out a peep. obama/romney are more similar.

Certainly ron paul will shake it up a bit.

I think Romney will make a decided effort to improve the efficiency of the Executive Branch -- something Obama has been almost criminally negligent with respect to. I think Romney will also differ significantly from Obama in domestic priorities, placing a higher priority on fiscal discipline and accountability to get our financial house in order and will not have as his primary objective moving the society significantly to the left (a pretty major difference).

I dunno. You are in the US, but romney seems as passive as obama. Neither seem like leadership material, although i think clearly romney has more leadership qualities than obama. obama hasn't been the go to leader that is needed right now. I can't believe I am saying this, but you need more of a "decider". (though, perhaps a decider that makes good decisions).

unless an easily enforced balanced budget constitutional amendment is passed, it will be more of the same. even if romney does manage to cut spending, the next politician in line will win by promising a whole bunch of shit we can't afford.

but even then, a balanced budget constitutional amendment must be easily enforceable. it would have to expressly provide standing to every american, or the supreme court would neuter the fuck out of it by saying none of us have standing to sue. there are a few different types of standing, but it comes down to you have suffered a legal injury. for the most part, when the government does something wrong, unless you were specifically singled out, you generally lack standing. in general, being a taxpayer does not provide standing.

GOP campaign slogan in the general election:

Are you better off than you were $5,000,000,000 ago?

I guess it depends on where you sit in the social pecking order. Poor/middle class? Lose home. Already stupidly rich? Here's a few more billion.

obama has been dancing around everything. from DADT, gitmo, banking crisis, etc. My problem hasn't been with what he said he was going to do, my problem is that he hasn't done it.

it's been a lot a despair and continuity, not hope and change.
