We have neither separatists nor active domestic terrorist groups to an extent even approaching that which you have. Lately, we've had a few lone wolf attempts, almost entirely Islamic, and that's it. No active groups, unless you want to count Peta. We don't have any serious separatists, other than maybe an Internet kook or two.
Why do you take it personally like a criticism? It's just a fact, and there must be reasons for it. I'm just curious about the reasons, if they are not ethnic in nature. _________________ Obama killed bin Laden like Nixon was the first man on the Moon. |

It's a long story but it mostly comes from our recent history of living under two fascists dictatorships in the past century and previously in a centralist monarchy that abolished the different kingdoms. Recently the different nationalisms in Spain (Catalan, Basque, Spanish) are majorly right wing and have used nationalism as an excuse to advance their agenda. When they are in the opposition they use the nationalist agenda to erode the government (the Spanish conservative party will cry "look the Sozialists are breaking Spain!" and the Catalan conservative party will moan about how "the central government hates Catalunya!"). Once they are in power they will suddenly stop crying and support each other to advance a conservative right wing agenda.
There are cultural differences for sure, but not ethnic ones and certainly not anything like the balkans, it's mostly a combination of recent history and low politics. _________________ There is a lot of novelty and truth in what you say, but that which is true is not novel and that which is novel is not true. |

Yet it seems many people have a strong sense of identity as Catalan or Basque. Odd.
Thank you for the explanation. _________________ Obama killed bin Laden like Nixon was the first man on the Moon. |
