Hi people
I'm installing gentoo on a new computer, the disk is already partitioned with gpt and all the partitions are in position and with the right file systems.
The installation is mostly smooth until i hit the "installing grub" part. Following the wiki (old and new) or the semiofficial guide, I always run into problems, well, basically one and is the lack of efivars.
So my question is: How can I install grub2?
Some related questions would be:
- Is there a live cd/dvd that I can download that boots in a uefi mode?
- Am I missing something from the guides? I know this question is kind of rethoric ...
- If there's no easy way to install grub2, is the grub in portage patched to boot a gpt/uefi system/disk?
I also tried with the archboo cd, but it stoped with a panic, so I couldn't really use it.
I have tried with the systemrescuecd, wich I have used in before, just not this setting and the live dvd 12.
Thanks

Hi
Well, the kernel I was configuring originally had everything inside. But I also tried with modules.
What amazes me, is that the three pages are different, just a few commands are the same and even then some times have different arguments.
Right now I'm about to delete all partitions, and start again ... well, first I'll try again with the scarabeus guide. But last time I tried that one, I ended with a system that had only a cursor in the top left corner.
Sorry for the rambling, but a lot of times I feel like everything needs a ridiculous amount of trial and error and time invested. And sometimes, just want things to work a bit easier ...
Well, after this wordy complain, It's time to continue with grubs.
And thanks again for all the help

Hi people
Well, after restarting the process with new partitions, I followed the scarabeus guide and nothing else. Everything seems to be fine, no error messages that I can see.
Everything is included in the kernel; not as a module.
But, when I reboot, The only thing I get is a cursor in the almost top left corner.
After that, I rebooted again with the sysrescuecd to check if there was any kind of log, but as expected, there is nothing since there is no system available.
Any ideas?
I think I've seen a message in the forum that mentions that, but so far I can't find it; I'll keep looking for it, but any help will be most appreciated.
