Hello, MacGyver031.
I used install-x86-minimal-20120110.iso and my mount is sda
/dev/sda1 ext3 ; /dev/sda2 (swap) ; /dev/sda3 ext4

Thank you for your reply.

Under the assumption that your real root is /dev/sda1 and your home directory is /dev/sda3, you could try just hitting enter-key.
Should this not work, you could type /dev/sda1 instead.

I am unsure if your install-cd has EXT4 drivers built in. In case it is not, this is a "normal" reaction in my eyes.

Greetings,

k01: in your help i can't find fstab, cd /etc/fstab do not exist inside of the folder /etc. I just don't understand how possible this happens. In this way i think understand where is the problem, so, i will format and install again and be sure that no detail escape me.

MacGyver031: Here http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-x86.xml?part=1&chap=4 It's possible to mount ext4. (I think so). In your eyes, what do you advise to me? mount in ext3 the / and ext2 the boot?

I've had this problem myself in the past.

The problem is in your kernel. You failed to compile ext4 support into your kernel; and if you did put ext4 support in you have set it up as a module.

You need to have it compiled into the kernel so that it is passed to the initrd file so that bootup can read sda3.

It's frusterating, but simple to fix once you know what the problem is.
