monitoring x11 clipboard access?

I'd like to know, if there's an easy way - or any way at all - to monitor the access of the X11 clipboard, specifically, to know when the clipboard's content has been pasted anywhere?

I'm writing a little password manager for myself and need a proper way to input data into forms, since timeouts are to static for my needs, switching the data once one set has been pasted would be beneficial.
