I keep getting a compile error. I've tried my usual tricks and research and can't find anything.

I don't even use KDE anymore, I now use Gnome. So maybe help to remove KDE from my desktop (keep Gnome) might be the best route.

This is what I get for an error:
Code:
LinuxServer jay # emerge --info '=kde-base/plasma-workspace-4.10.1-r1'

LinuxServer jay #

If you need the log or something else to help fix this, please let me know.

Again, I would just prefer to remove all things KDE if possible instead of always having to fix the KDE conflicts.

Well you could just remove kde-base/printer-applet-4.9.5 as it is replaced by a different package.

That might be what you need to do th get past that problem.

That is what I said up front, only I don't know how to remove all of KDE without breaking my system.

ok you can just remove the one blocker and see what happens.

Code:
emerge -C =kde-base/printer-applet-4.9.5

Normally something like
Code:
emerge -avuD world --newuse --with-bdeps=y

automatically removes blockers.

It depends how you installed it for the first time.

The most common way to install kde being to emerge kde-meta I'll assume that it is what you have done.

You can confirm this by reading /var/lib/portage/world and check if kde-base/kde-meta is recorded.

If it is the case then you just need to :

1/
Code:
emerge -C kde-meta

And then to

2/
Code:
emerge --depclean
