I'm trying to install Gentoo on Macbook using this article: http://www.odi.ch/prog/macbookpro/index.php
(I know that it's a bit outdated.)

I've installed rEFIt and resized my OS-X partition using Boot Camp.
I've used parted to delete the Windows partition.

Here is the output from parted:
http://paste.pocoo.org/show/531138/
Is it OK?

What if I want to delete Mac OS X completely?
Will it be enough to delete /dev/sda2 in this case? Will it boot successfully?
How can I enlarge my Gentoo partition after this?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Could you help me with GRUB (Error 17)?

grub> root (hd0,)
 Possible partitions are:
Partition num: 0, Filesystem type unknown, partition type 0x83
Partition num: 1, Filesystem type unknown, partition type 0x83
Partition num: 2, Filesystem type unknown, partition type 0x83
Partition num: 3, Filesystem type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83

What should I choose?

And what about setup (hd0,)?

/etc/fstab:
http://paste.pocoo.org/show/531227/

For some reason now I see two HD-tuxes (and another one from CD) in the
rEFIt menu. Those two don't wanna load without bootable CD ("No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key").
But the system will try to boot if I keep the CD inside and choose
"Boot from the first HD". After that it will crash with an error.
(Before the manual configuration I tried to do it with grub-install.)

I've been told that I have an extra entry in rEFIt because I've set setup with a partiton argument before and if I want to revert that I can format that partition (thereby loosing its contents), or manualy (dd) copy a new boot sector from a different computer.

How to fix this? Could you help me with this? dd is a low-level tool and I really don't want to screw everything up.

Hey, djdunn!

Thanks for the quick response.

fdisk -l /dev/sda
WARNING: GPT (GUID Partition Table) detected on '/dev/sda'! The util fdisk doesn't support GPT. Use GNU Parted.

I've tried to copy MBR with dd using this guide:

It didn't help.

> If you get a "No bootable device" error, select the partitioning tool from the rEFIt menu and update the MBR. This syncs the partition tables between the GPT and MBR loaders. [1]
It worked.

The only problem I have is that extra Tux in the rEFIt menu. How to get rid of that?
