would you have been happier with president mccain? no hope, and definitely no change.
Whether the other guy would've done better or not, you have to admit that obama's been a pretty poor leader. The USian economy is still in the shitter after 4 years and the less said about his foreign policy, the better.

I think he has been a poor leader, but not for the same reason that people here think. People were hoping that he had a magic hoover to clean up the economic mess he was given and he doesn't. By many measures, he is doing ok in that dept (i.e. look at europe, which has taken the austerity route and it is EVEN worse).
The thing is, officials are elected to turn things around. That he'll fix the economic mess was one of the promises he made to win election. 4 years and the economy is still doddering. I'd say time is up and the excuses about him being handed the problem are weak. He knew the job he was taking on.

Denial ain't just a river in Egypt, buddy.

People weren't "hoping". He led them to believe. And he's not doing okay in that department by any measure. We'd have been better off hunkering down, doing nothing, and letting markets correct themselves. Banks are still whoring it up with the Administration and giving themselves fat-ass bonuses. The housing industry is still in a world of hurt. Real unemployment is somewhere between 11 and 16 percent. Trillions in stimulus money have been pissed away without having the promised effects. Even the bailed out automotive corporations are now trying to get up enough nerve to ask for another bailout, and Obama has told them to keep it under their hat until after the election is over. And although our government is lying to us about inflation, it's obvious that prices have dramatically increased. And, by publicly announcing our withdrawal timelines in both Iraq and Afghanistan, he has essentially turned Iraq over to the Iran-sponsored Shiites and lost the war in Afghanistan. Meanwhile, he's pissed off both Israel and the Arabs, let down the Muslim world hoping for human rights reform, allowed Egypt, Libya, Yemen, and Somalia to fall into the hands of Islamist militants, road our Army and Marine Corps hard to the point of combat ineffectiveness, bombed the fuck out Libya for no reason (letting al Qaeda get its hands on thousands of man-portable anti-aircraft missiles). Devalued our currency by injecting over $5 trillion to no effect. Kept Guantanamo open. Abused detainees in Afghanistan. Publicly acknowledged using a "kill list" and driven Pakistan to the brink of war with us. Increased warrantless wiretapping by an order of magnitude. Failed to address the vulnerability of our economy and military-industrial complex to cyber-warfare. Handed out thousands of assault rifles to Mexican drug lords. Given stimulus money to campaign contributors for projects deemed unworthy. Assassinated a U.S. citizen without any type of due process. .... it goes on and on.

But yeah. You keep telling yourself he's done "okay".

Obama himself said three years ago that if he didn't get the economy going by election time, he would be a one term President. If he had a gram of moral fortitude, he would follow LBJ's example and not run.

He is an ineffectual piece of shit as President, and it is only the mind numb partisans nut jobs that still support him.

Democrats figure the Republicans are now using social media effectively too, and they've got to keep their Pied Piper advantage, so the plan for this election is to leverage the smart phones. It's only one step removed from putting electrodes directly into the lemming's brains.

Here's my prediction: they will have little activist apps for both iPhone and Android, to organize a mindless Borg-like army of zombies and get them to do irrational things. There will be flash mobs.

Generation Lemming has substituted communication for thought.

Good prediction. It won't increase those who would vote for him, but it will probably get more of them to the polls. Doesn't look like I'll have to rent Idiocracy after all.

I was thinking more along the lines of astroturfing.

Oddly enough if Oblabla and Congress didn't do shit I'm sure the Federal Reserve would be stimulating the economy all night long, up the a.

Ten bucks to anyone who can tell me where that's from without googling.

Machiavelli, referring to the good Lady Fortune, and saying by analogy it is necessary to be her master like you would with any other woman. It's his version of Frederick II's "de l'audace, encore de l'audace, toujours de l'audace.", or if you prefer, Ben Franklin's much later "God helps those who help themselves."

While humorous, it was in my opinion actually an important pre-Enlightenment reversal (during the Renaissance) of man's resignedness to the fates, which dominated Classical thinking.

Got it. But you're not getting $10.

Also,

"Fortune favors the bold"

How about a cookie.

The only reason I knew that is I was reading about it a couple months ago. So, I deserve some reward for continuing to seek new knowledge despite being "old".

If I did, I would have offered to give him $8 in a month or two instead.

Not paying was the key. The actual amount isn't significant.

If you did, you'd have taken $10 from me (for my own good, because I don't know what's good for me), and given six of it to him, pocketed $2, and squandered $3 more, complained that you were running out of money, and got somebody to magic up another $1 to make up the difference.

I learned a lot of great advice with my new job. Seems like my direction in life has changed.

To start I always thought Albert Einstein as an amazing Scientist. I learned he was a better philosopher due to his discovery of "Everything is Relative".

Another one, which I don't think is a quote from anyone, but I will put it in quotes anyway.

"You are only smart as the people around you"

Best piece(s) of advice I have ever received:

  1. You're born. You live. You die. Deal with it.
  2. Don't vote for Obama.

I strongly adhere to both.

It is true. Also at the same time I feel every bit of advice can be used in other means. Even some useless stuff.

The two best pieces of advice I've got so far:
  1. "When calculating the time requirement for you project, be as pessimistic as possible. Then add 50%."
  2. "Help a man when he is in trouble and he will remember your name when he is in trouble again."
