BoneKracker already failded on his resolution in this thread.

I'm going to go to the gym every day and get a 6-pack.
No, seriously, it's super convenient, there's a giant liquor store literally across the street from the fitness center. _________________ Stand With Mittens |

I've already started on part of my resolution. Today being New Years Day, I've been drinking sake since I woke up. _________________ If I had a dollar for every time capitalism was blamed for the problems caused by government, I'd be a fat filmmaker with a baseball cap |

Don't do resolutions on the day itself, if I had to make one - it would be not to be in the same position next year. _________________ When you break rules, break 'em good and hard |

BTW, I am living up to my resolution so far. Got a 6-pack of Newcastle and a Paulaner Salvator. _________________ Stand With Mittens |

Especially considering that most of the resolutions are usually things like quitting smoking/drugs/drinking and losing weight. Losing weight is difficult in the winter because it's too cold to be outside most of the time. |
It's the middle of summer here, buddy. | Is the success rate higher? It would certainly be interesting if it was. |
I've been thinking about this over the last couple of days, in conjunction with an article I read on slashdot a while ago (I can't find it) that stated it was easier to break a habit if you're trying to be 'good' in other parts of your life, i.e. it's hard to be good all the time.
People usually take their summer holidays (2 - 3 weeks or so) at this time of the year, so people stop the habits of work (getting up on time, eating meals at prescribed times), so I wonder if it IS easier to start a resolution this time of year, until people go back to work, and then if it's not embedded enough, it falls away as people fall into automatic pilot and the routine of work.
This doesn't really answer your question. i don't have an answer. I suspect no, it isn't any easier. _________________ Jesus Could Be Their Candidate and the Republicans Would Still Lose |

2013 New Year's Resolution: To be able to make 100 push-ups straight.
I know, last year I made one too, which was to be able to make 200 push-ups but then I hit a cow, on my motorcycle. And tore my rotator-cuff.
Oh, and that reminds me of yet another resolution. Do not hit any cows. _________________ What looks like a cat, flies like a bat, brays like a donkey, and plays like a monkey? |

Last year I successfully achieved my goal of being less of a prick. This year, my new resolution is to be more open-minded. I do this as an example to mgruff, because he lacks teh Scyents. _________________ Oldthinkers unbellyfeel INGSOC.

It's not just about being a prick, lets be honest, cynical. We can be less of it. Even beings so different to you can tell you something...not likely though. lol.
But having an open mind is not wrong. I salut! |

My new years resolution: "taking the most charitable view of those who disagree"
via Arnold Kling
| Quote: | Suppose we look at writing on issues where people tend to hold strong opinions that fit with their ideology. Such writing can
(a) attempt to open the minds of people on the opposite side as the author
(b) attempt to open minds of people on the same side as the author
(c) attempt to close minds of people on the same side as the author
So, think about it. Wouldn’t you classify most op-eds and blog posts as (c)? Isn’t that sort of pathetic?
My goal is to avoid (c). I will try to keep the posts here free of put-downs, snark, cheap shots, straw-man arguments, and taking the least charitable interpretation of what others say. |

(c) attempt to close minds of people on the same side as the author | Seems as though the answer lies with the reader. IMO, the more "op/ed" the piece is, the less likely it is to be well reasoned. I often find that as I read (and maybe agree early on) the authors usually open up a can of crazy, at which point I stop reading. a would certainly be laudable, but probably will end up looking like c. And b seems unlikely due to the target audience holding strong opinions which fit their ideology. _________________ lolgov. 'cause where we're going, you don't have civil liberties.
