Hi guys,
I've just emerged ALSA and I tried to make it as described in the Desktop-HOWTO ... but I can't modprobe "snd_ac97_clock"! Where should the modules be located?

Well even the module "snd_pcm_oss" could not be found and this is what should be modprobed for alsa, shouldn't it?
I tried some from that list but no one could be found
What now? In the HOWTO is written, that I could find all possible modules under "/lib/modules/[kernel]/misc" ... this folder does not exist! |

check /lib/modules/<your-kernel-version>/kernel/sound
that's where they are on my system. make sure you edited the file /etc/conf.d/alsa correctly and did a update-modules.

Hehe, I was trying to modprobe "snd_via8233" (with an underscore!) but it's "snd-via8233" for example!
I now moprobed the module told you above and It seems to work but It's like mute?!?!? Is that possible or did I something wrong? |

Any other suggestions? |

I followed the instructions in the Desktop guide as well and I always have to reset my mixer settings after booting up. Also, during the boot process I will get a message that says ALSA has already been started when it tries to load it. Maybe that's the problem? Any ideas? |

Sounds as if you try to load it twice... the alsasound script should be run in the boot runlever not in default... check /etc/runlevels/boot and /etc/runlevels/default to see where the symlink is... if there is one in default, delete it (rc-update del alsasound default)
I haven't been able to reproduce the problem on my own machine yet, but you might want to check /etc/asound.state for the entry with the name "Master Playback Switch" and check if its value is set to true and the next entry called "Master Playback Volume" to check if volume is turned on... _________________ Adopt an unanswered post today! |

Well I guess that must be the problem then. I don't see any /etc/asound.state file or anything similar. I'm guessing it's not remembering the settings because that is missing. Any idea how I'd go about fixing that? |
