VMware 8 Stopped Working

For some reasone vmware workstation 8 has stopped working. From what I recall it last worked properly about 3 or 4 days ago. I see it briefly trying to load, and then it just exits without any visible warnings. I thought it might be due to a recent update of the nvida drivers, but rolling back to a previous version did not help. I did find errors in dmesg.

Has anyone else run into this issue?

I having a similar problem but in my case the crash is a bit different

Same problem here: vmware-workstation-8 + nvidia-drivers-290* = segfault

I was able to pass the problem by setting VMWARE_USE_SHIPPED_LIBS before starting a application.

export VMWARE_USE_SHIPPED_LIBS=force; vmware

Your suggestion solved a similar error that I encountered after emerging world. In my case, vmware would crash with an error message concerning libuuid.so.3.
