[Yes] Can I mask packages from particular overlays?

I have a couple of overlays.
Some packages exist in both Gentoo and the overlay.
Can I instruct emerge to disregard a list of overlays when it comes to considering a package?
ie. for Firefox, only use Gentoo, for package X, use any available overlay.

Yes, all /etc/portage/package.* files accept "cat/pkg::repo_name" entries
