Thanks for the link. I thought I did, but I guess not.

After following that guide, I still get, ad infinitum:

Code:

Beethoven audiodef # emerge @preserved-rebuild

 * IMPORTANT: 1 news items need reading for repository 'gentoo'.
 * Use eselect news to read news items.

Calculating dependencies... done!
>>> Verifying ebuild manifests
>>> Emerging (1 of 1) app-office/openoffice-bin-3.3.0
>>> Installing (1 of 1) app-office/openoffice-bin-3.3.0
>>> Jobs: 1 of 1 complete                           Load avg: 1.26, 1.30, 1.28

 * Messages for package app-office/openoffice-bin-3.3.0:

 * Fallback PaX marking -m
 *      /usr/lib64/openoffice/program/soffice.bin
>>> Auto-cleaning packages...

>>> No outdated packages were found on your system.

 * GNU info directory index is up-to-date.

 * IMPORTANT: 1 news items need reading for repository 'gentoo'.
 * Use eselect news to read news items.

!!! existing preserved libs:
>>> package: dev-lang/python-2.6.6-r2
 *  - /usr/lib64/libpython2.6.so.1.0
 *      used by /usr/lib64/openoffice/basis3.3/program/libpyuno.so (app-office/openoffice-bin-3.3.0)
 *      used by /usr/lib64/openoffice/basis3.3/program/python-core-2.6.1/lib/lib-dynload/_bisect.so (app-office/openoffice-bin-3.3.0)
 *      used by /usr/lib64/openoffice/basis3.3/program/python-core-2.6.1/lib/lib-dynload/_bytesio.so (app-office/openoffice-bin-3.3.0)
 *      used by 59 other files

I don't think this is related to libpng any more.

What do you mean "manual install" - gnucash 2.4.8 is in portage, why not ...

What's the news item you're ignoring?

Python 2.6??? Openoffice went off a while back, it's libreoffice these days.

The gnucash 2.4.8 ebuild has a fatal bug involving python. So that's a dead end until it gets fixed.

But how do I get rid of the endless @preserved-rebuild message?

Like this...

Code:

rm /var/lib/portage/preserved_libs_registry

Or more correctly...

Code:

emerge -C openoffice-bin
emerge libreoffice-bin
