What do you consider to be an orphan? If you are asking how to mark a package as explicitly desired on the system, look at emerge --noreplace.

A real orphan is a software package that can only work if it is a part of an other software. If this other software is not installed, the first will never be called. So it is doing nothing and can be uninstall. An emerge -acv want to uninstall the subversion package that can work has a standalone if it is mark an explicite installed package. So your command emerge -n make it pass to world favorites, where it cannot be uninstall has an orphan. It will stay installed until I decide something else. Thank's Hu for the good answer.
