|
|
Hello,
I just had a quick question about updating.
So basically I just went and followed this link here:
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-x86.xml?part=2&chap=1
Using:
Code: | # emerge --update --deep --newuse world
# emerge --depclean
# revdep-rebuild
|
It deleted the orphaned dependencies, but it also deleted nano. I use vim so I wasn't too concerned, but I was just curious as to what would cause nano to be removed, because nano isn't a dependency (is it?) as far as I knew. Just a newbie gentoo question I had to ask.

See --depclean wants to remove nano!

That's a joke, I think.
If you want nano, then emerge it. It was never part of the world set; it's explicit membership in the system set is all that's changed. You've said you use vim. I'm one of those sick, depraved individuals that uses emacs but I keep nano around on the remote chance that an "emerge --update" will temporarily break emacs and I don't want to use ed.
