|
|
I have a strange problem with K3b. Until today I was writing data at Verbatim DVDs and as I was unable to find them, I took TDK. After having write my last Verbatim, K3b refuses to write the ΤDK one! I receive only the following speed burning choices: 2,5x, Ignore, Auto and More. But any choice I make, I have the same result:
Code: | "Medium or burner does not support writing at X (any speed I choose) speed
Switching burn speed down to 1x
Enable Burnfree"
|
and several fail messages are following.
Here's my Debugging Output:

This is a critical problem for me, as I have a lot of stuff in my HD that I need to store. |

It's possible your actual DVD writer does not like the new blank media. Happens all the time. Have you checked the manufacturer codes on the discs? |

Some drives are just not able to burn some blank discs. I would look at your model of DVD drive and get the actual manufacturer code (hint: it's not TDK) from the disc. There are some media analysis tools, but I am not sure if there's one for linux.
The reason why I suggest this is that it stopped working after switching brands of discs. There's probably nothing wrong with your DVD writer.
Here's a link to a recommended media list, and it has this disclaimer:
Quote: |
There are factors beyond our control for disk quality.
Changes in material properties and OEM subcontractors for even the same brand of disks are just
some of the factors that dictate disk characteristics and overall disk quality. |
I've had a lot of problems with writing media over the years, and it was almost always the media's fault, not the burner.
Can you get a single disk somewhere that's not verbatim or TDK? If it burns that disc then the drive is likely OK. |

Today I tried a Verbatim CD-R and it was successfully written!
When I tried a TDK DVD-R, again the same problem!
How can I make it accept the new DVDs? |

You won't be able to, it's like jamming a square peg in a round hole. You'll have to return the discs and find another brand. |
