gnome mixer?

what mixer does gnome use. i want to get my sound card saying "front left" and "front right" i thought it was gnome-media, but i guess not. i have it installed and my notification does not have a sound mixer going. i specifically need it to set a USB sound card as default. i need it to reassign firefox's default sound out to my usb sound card that i can plug my head phones into. right now its selected back of the pc for audio out.

NEVER MIND... pulse audio use flag broke it..... on to my safety dancing...

in a pinch pavuctl can be used to force the sound card onboard off.... ( i asked because usb card is module, onboard is not...)
