|
|
Hi there
This is my first attempt installing gentoo and its still quite hard. I've done it before with an ethernet connection and it was oaky,
but now I'm having problems doing the same using a wifi connection. I must say that I'm a novice in both networking and gentoo.
My controller uses iwlagn module and it is loaded when I boot from my liveCD so that's no the problem.
Anyway, let's start with a few simple questions:
1. When I run iwconfig I get:
Code: |
lo no wireless extensions
eth0 no wireless extensions
|
Does that mean my wireless connections are not recognized?
Also, if I run net-setup, where do I get all the data it is asking me for?
(gateway, mask etc...)
I am sorry if I'm not very clear, its only because I am a rookie and I couldn't find a guide to direct me in this specific situation.
If you think you can direct me, give me something to read or whatever, please do.
Thanks in advance

waht does dmesg | grep iwl return?
Did you install the firmware? Either have a look into /usr/portage/net-wireless for the approiate ucode, or just install linux-firmware (emerge -a linux-firmware) which will pull in all the firmwares.
to less important questions:
which kernel are you running?
what type of iwl card?
